MEDIA ADVISORY: Building a Blue-Green Future: Ocean-Climate Action for 2021

English Español Français Deutsch Italiano Português русский বঙ্গীয় 中文 日本語

WHAT: On Thursday, September 10 at 2pm ET, Ocean Conservancy will host “Building a Blue-Green Future: Ocean-Climate Action for 2021.” Please join us for a discussion on how the United States can implement sustainable ocean-based climate solutions to complement the full suite of climate policies necessary to phase out carbon pollution and build resilience to its effects.

Starting with a keynote address by Representative Kathy Castor, Chair of the House Select Committee on the Climate Crisis, “Building a Blue-Green Future” will go in depth on how a truly comprehensive climate strategy must maximize ocean-based climate mitigation and adaptation measures and be grounded in justice. Following Representative Castor will be a panel discussion with experts including: Janis Searles Jones, CEO of Ocean Conservancy; Andrés Jimenez, Executive Director of Green 2.0; and Sue Biniaz, Senior Fellow for Climate Change at the U.N. Foundation and one of the architects of the Paris Agreement.

From wildfires burning through ancient redwood forests in California to the rapid intensification of Hurricane Laura in the Gulf, the devastating impacts of climate change are more visible now than ever before. We need to take action now by rapidly decarbonizing our economy. The ocean plays a large role in that: we can advance blue carbon ecosystems that naturally sequester carbon, support renewable sources of offshore energy, and decarbonize the shipping industry, among other ocean-based solutions.

At the event, Ocean Conservancy will also discuss its recently released Action Agenda for a Blue-Green Future, which provides detailed recommendations for how the Administration and Congress can advance ocean-based mitigation and adaptation solutions through executive action, legislation, and federal agency policies and rules.

Please note: Ocean Conservancy is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization. Ocean Conservancy does not support or endorse any political candidates. This issue-focused event is designed to discuss ocean climate solutions and is being held in compliance with the rules governing 501(c)(3) organizations.
